Speed skating takes fitness skating to an entirely new level. Sure you can speed skate recreationally, but the fun starts in races where you pit your skill, will power and physical condition against another. There is great thrill in the speed and the competitive nature of the sport.

Speed Skates

Speed skates are usually sold in parts not as a whole, to allow customised set up for each individual. The boots, generally made out of carbon fibre are very low cut to allow maximum forward flex for maximum push in each stride. Minimal padding is provided in speed boots to achive maximum power transfer (Thicker padding will absorb the energy you put in each stride, rather than converting it into speed). A longer frame also helps you to cover a longer distance with each stride and stability at high speeds.
